I'm interested in understanding, at different levels, how complex and unique phenomena emerge from interactions between (almost?) fundamental building blocks of nature; and on developing, extending, and applying numerical techniques in the physical sciences. An Ipê-amarelo (Handroanthus albus) close to the Cathedral of Brasília, in my hometown. The blossoming of these trees occurs during a short period of 1–2 weeks, ranging from late May to October, coloring the scenery in white, yellow, pink, and purple.
